Results driven, change leader, with a global perspective. Michael was President & Country Chair for Shell Canada for over 5 years of his 33-year Shell career. He brings wide international experience across five continents including the boards of Shell Canada, Shell E&P Ireland and Business in the Community. Michael has successfully led large, complex operations, joint ventures and the development, execution, commissioning, and start-up of mega projects. Michael was born and raised in Calgary. He is married with three children and is a recent grandfather to four delightful grandkids. Michael is a Professional Engineer.

Entrepreneur and lifelong learner with an eye for detail. For the past 20 years Kevin has enjoyed the highs and lows of being an entrepreneur in Alberta as the co-founder and President at Carbon Controls Ltd. Kevin has provided technical support and product solutions for an array of instrumentation and electrical equipment for the past 28 years. He loves working in the field of Industrial Instrumentation Engineering Technology. Kevin and his family prioritize charity work as way to give back to the community serving in countries such as Belize, Costa Rica and Mexico. Kevin is a member of the International Society of Automation (ISA) and a Certified Engineering Technologist under the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET).

Collaborative, strategic, deal maker. Brad Stevens is an experienced, committed, innovative and entrepreneurial leader with a demonstrated history of building relationships to accomplish goals. Brad is excited to be a part of Alberta’s Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Sector. He believes that Northern RNA’s can be an organization that helps to diversify the Alberta economy and that it will continue to create opportunities for employment. Brad is passionate about helping Calgarians. It is a way for him to give back to the city and as the former Deputy City Manager he cares deeply about Calgary’s success. Brad has three degrees from the University of Calgary; Bachelor of Arts, Political Science and Government, Bachelor of Law, and Master of Business Administration. He is also a member of Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD).
John Ballantyne (Board of Directors)

Dr. John Ballantyne brings over 20 years of executive and board leadership experience to Northern RNA, having co-founded Aldevron in 1998 and serving as its Chief Science Officer through its acquisition by Danaher Corporation for $9.6 Billion.  Following his retirement from Aldevron, Dr. Ballantyne has continued his significant presence in the biotechnology sector through his investments, Board and Scientific Advisory Board roles, and co-founding of multiple companies in the life sciences space. Dr, Ballantyne holds undergraduate degrees in Pharmacy from the Central Institute of Technology (Heretaunga, NZ) and University of Otago (Dunedin, NZ) and his Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences from North Dakota State University (Fargo, ND).
